February 25, 2006 And finally today I'm going to mix "Lack of it is Emptyness", I've managed to get a nice slide solo from this guitar right here, as you can see, the 3rd string shines more than the others, that's because it's the only string that has been changed recently... that's cheapness. Although the song is done, I'm planning to improve the ending, right now it's just me singing the "love, is love..." part with some "indian chant" (me) on top. I'm planning to use a resonant filter and maybe add some rythmic pattern using white noise... it may fade out as fake sea waves doing some filtering over the white noise. Also I have this crazy idea about boosting the low frequencies in the intro, so people thinks that the speakers are going to explode and just when it's about to happen, the first verse comes in. I was thinking on boosting down to 20 or 40 kHz, but then I realised that very few speakers can reproduce that low, so I'll probably boost around 100 or 150 kHz. Also I may do some "cleaning" here and there, because some voices are not perfectly in tune. I'm trying not to abuse the pitch corrector as I did in the past (check "beautyful" or "Don't Know How To Reach You" in the Music Page). I'm feeling more confident about my voice, I always thought about myself as a composer and guitarist (in that order), but I have managed to sing better lately. |

This thing at your right is an Udu. It was made by Romain Davidico, who played bass and percussion in our group "Antartic Hippies", he gave it to me when he returned to France some years ago (where are you man?!!). It don't have a perfect Udu sound, it's a bit weak on the low beats, but I used it a lot in this song. Aside from being a percussion instrument, it looks great in the living room ;). Time to begin the mix!! stay tuned.
